Hoher Kasten

This 1,794-meter Alpine peak features a cable car connection from Brülisau village, providing access to panoramic views spanning six countries across the Rhine Valley and surrounding mountain ranges.

The mountain gained prominence in the early 19th century when mountaineers began documenting ascents to its summit and neighboring peaks, establishing it as a significant viewpoint in the Appenzell Alps region.

The summit hosts a revolving restaurant serving traditional Swiss cuisine while slowly rotating to offer diners complete 360-degree views, making it a centerpiece of regional tourism and culinary heritage.

Cable car service operates daily with 20-minute intervals from Brülisau, taking eight minutes to reach the summit, while the Alpine garden and Europa Rundweg circular trail provide educational walking opportunities.

The mountain features the only revolving restaurant in the Appenzell region, combined with an Alpine botanical garden showcasing indigenous mountain plants native to the Swiss Alps ecosystem.
