Glishorn, Mountain summit in Valais, Switzerland
Glishorn is a mountain summit rising to 2,525 meters above the Rhone Valley near Brig. From its peak, views extend toward Bietschhorn and the Aletsch Glacier, which dominate the surrounding landscape.
During the Middle Ages, this mountain served as a reference point for merchants traveling between Switzerland and Italy through Simplon Pass. Its location near this historic trade route made it a known landmark in the alpine region.
Mountaineers have maintained a summit book on Glishorn for years, recording their climbing experiences for others to read. Visitors can flip through the pages and see traces of the many people who have made this journey over time.
The climb to Glishorn is demanding and takes about seven hours over a distance of about 17 kilometers. The hike can start from several trailheads, such as Brig or Simplon Pass, depending on which route you choose.
The northern face of the mountain drops steeply with a vertical rise of about 2,000 meters from Glis-Brig to the peak. This makes it one of the steepest routes in the entire region.
