Piz Lad, Mountain summit in Sesvenna Range, Switzerland and Italy
Piz Lad is a mountain summit in the Sesvenna Range located on the border between South Tyrol and the Swiss canton of Graubünden, reaching 2,808 meters high. The peak stands at the boundary line between Italy and Switzerland, dividing two distinct alpine regions.
The mountain sits near a tripoint boundary where Italy, Switzerland, and Austria meet, positioned 800 meters north of the summit. This border region held military and territorial importance across different periods of European history.
The mountain paths include former military routes from different national forces, reflecting the territorial significance of this border region through generations.
Hiking starts from the Rescher Alm car park at 1,729 meters, following trail number 4 past a mountain pasture at 2,000 meters. From this point, the path becomes steeper as it approaches the summit, so proper footwear and physical fitness are helpful for the hike.
On clear days, three lakes from different countries are visible from the summit area: Lake Resia, Grüner See, and Schwarzer See. These water bodies allow visitors to see features from multiple nations within a single view, creating a rare geographical perspective.
