Le Chamossaire

Le Chamossaire rises to 2112 meters (6929 feet) elevation and offers views toward the Villars-sur-Ollon plateau to the south and the Les Ormonts valley to the north. The peak sits within a larger mountain area that contains hiking trails and visitor facilities.

The Bex-Villars-Bretaye railway was constructed in the early 1900s and first made this peak accessible to visitors beyond the immediate region. This connection transformed the area into a destination for tourism and recreation.

This summit forms part of the Villars ski area, where visitors experience Alpine traditions set against mountain surroundings. The location draws both locals and tourists for mountain-based activities throughout the year.

The quickest route involves taking the railway to Villars-sur-Ollon followed by a chairlift to the summit, though marked hiking paths offer alternative approaches. Sturdy footwear and basic mountain preparation are advisable, particularly if you plan to spend time exploring the area.

This peak attracts paraglider pilots who launch from the summit to catch thermal currents and fly across broad stretches of the surrounding landscape. This activity introduces a different way of experiencing the mountain that many ground-based visitors overlook.
