Tellenburg castle ruin

Stone walls and towers of Tellenburg Castle stand on elevated ground, offering views across the Bernese Alps and Frutigen valley.

The Lords of Kien constructed Tellenburg Castle in 1200, which later served as an administrative center under Bernese rule until 1798.

The castle ruins represent medieval Swiss architecture and demonstrate the regional defensive structures from the 13th century.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins through marked hiking trails that start from the Frutigen town center and lead up to the historical site.

A fire in 1885 transformed this former toll station and administrative center into the current state of preserved ruins.
