Felsenegg-Girstel TV-tower, Broadcasting tower in Zürich, Switzerland.
The Felsenegg-Girstel TV-tower stands 73 meters tall near the mountain station of the Felseneggbahn with a four-legged steel lattice structure rising above the landscape. All technical equipment is housed underground, leaving the tower itself as a purely functional broadcasting antenna without any interior space.
The original installation was built in 1963 following designs by architect Edwin Schoch and served telephone and broadcasting transmission for decades. It was replaced in 2021 with a modern structure meeting current technological demands.
The broadcasting facility plays a central role in connecting residents to various local television stations and ensuring media reaches the wider region. It demonstrates how communication infrastructure integrates into Swiss daily life to deliver news and entertainment to households.
The broadcasting tower sits near the mountain station accessible via the Felseneggbahn cable car, which connects easily to Zürich through public transportation. The structure itself is not open to the public and functions solely as a transmission facility.
What makes this structure stand out is that it has no interior space whatsoever - all technical systems are completely buried underground. This innovative approach allows the antenna to transmit VHF, DAB+, and Internet of Things signals while keeping the visible structure purely functional and uncluttered.
