Freibad Letzigraben

Freibad Letzigraben is a public swimming facility in Zürich with multiple water zones for different activities. The grounds include a large lap pool, a wave pool section, and shallow areas for younger swimmers, alongside substantial grass areas for resting and socializing.

Designed in 1949 by Swiss architect Max Frisch, the facility emerged during post-war reconstruction when Switzerland was investing in new public spaces. It has remained an important recreational destination and is now recognized as a protected cultural monument.

The lido functions as a gathering place where people from the neighborhood come together to spend time in the water and on the grass during summer. Its open layout makes it easy for families and groups to spread out and enjoy the day alongside others.

The facility has several entrance points and adequate changing rooms and shower facilities throughout the grounds. Arriving early on warm weekend days helps you find a good spot on the grass, as the lido becomes quite busy during peak hours.

During winter months, the grounds transform into a free public park with open lawns and barbecue areas available to visitors. This seasonal shift demonstrates how the space serves the community well beyond its original swimming purpose.
