Allmen

Allmen is a mountain summit in the Zürcher Oberland at about 1076 meters elevation, featuring wide meadow areas crossed by natural hiking paths. The landscape consists of open grasslands broken by hedgerows and scattered trees, with views across the surrounding region.

The mountain has served as a passage since medieval times, when farmers drove their animals to seasonal grazing lands along established routes. These ancient paths remain visible today as hiking trails and continue to define the region's walking network.

The open meadows and grazing lands here reflect how local farming communities have shaped the landscape over centuries, with cattle and sheep still visible on the slopes. This working pastoral environment shows how alpine farming remains part of daily life in the region.

Several hiking routes lead to the summit from different starting areas in the region, all clearly marked with signs showing direction and progress. It is best to come with comfortable walking shoes and weather protection, as mountain conditions can change quickly.

On clear days, you can see the city of Zurich on the horizon while standing in true alpine mountain landscape. This is one of the few places where the contrast between urban development and natural terrain becomes so starkly visible.
