Montbenon, Park in Lausanne, Switzerland
Montbenon is a park in the center of Lausanne, Switzerland. It features large lawns, a fountain with water jets, and a terrace with views of Lake Geneva and the Alps.
The site was vineyards until the city bought it in 1345 and turned it into a public space. In the 19th century, it became a promenade, and later a parking garage was built under it, with the park on its roof.
The esplanade is a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors. People come to sit on the grass, play with the water jets, or admire the statue of William Tell.
The park is flat and easy to walk through, with paths that connect the different areas. It is a good place to rest, have a picnic, or enjoy the view at any time of day.
The park sits on the roof of a five-story underground parking garage. The statue of William Tell was a gift from a Parisian patron in 1902.
