Siebenbrünnen

Siebenbrünnen is a karst spring formation in Lenk where water emerges from seven distinct openings in limestone rock walls. Located at roughly 1,450 meters elevation, these springs form the headwaters of the Simme River.

The springs have supported settlement and farming in the Simmental valley since medieval times by providing water for local communities. This natural resource shaped the region's agricultural development across centuries.

Local inhabitants of Lenk maintain traditional knowledge about the springs' water patterns, passing this information through generations of mountain farmers.

The springs are reachable via marked hiking trails from Lenk, with the best access during summer months from June to September. The well-maintained paths make navigation straightforward throughout this period.

The spring water originates from the Plaine Morte glacier and travels underground for about 3 kilometers before emerging through the seven openings. This underground journey demonstrates how karst systems function in alpine environments.
