Fleckistock, Alpine summit in Uri, Switzerland
Fleckistock is a mountain peak in Uri that reaches 3,417 meters (11,207 feet) and is characterized by a prominent south-western ridge. The western face drops away steeply with rocky formations that define its appearance.
The peak takes its name from red-colored rock formations that were historically referred to as Rot Stock by earlier climbers. This distinctive feature gave rise to the mountain's designation over time.
Local mountaineers regularly gather at the Swiss Alpine Club's Voralp hut to plan their ascents of this Uri canton landmark.
Climbers typically ascend via the normal route from Voralp hut at 2,126 meters (6,975 feet) following the south-western ridge. The route is accessible to experienced mountaineers with adequate alpine skills.
Two glaciers named Rutifirn and Kartigelfirn cover the eastern slopes and create a striking contrast with the ice-free western face. This difference between the two sides is immediately visible when approaching the summit.
