Hinter Tierberg, Alpine summit in Uri and Bern, Switzerland
Hinter Tierberg is an alpine peak on the border between Uri and Bern, standing 3,445 meters high. The mountain is framed by the Trift Glacier to the west and Chelen Glacier to the east, forming the centerpiece of a ridge with several summits.
The mountain has marked the natural boundary between Uri and Bern since Swiss cantons took shape in medieval times. This ridgeline established itself early as an important border for these two alpine regions.
Hinter Tierberg draws experienced climbers who come to test themselves on demanding alpine terrain. Such pursuits shape local mountain culture and connect visitors to the wider tradition of Swiss alpine sport.
Climbing here requires specialized mountaineering gear and glacier experience to navigate safely. Summer offers the best window for attempts, though snow and ice persist at higher elevations throughout the year.
The summit is part of a group of three peaks that spread across the ridge at different elevations. The other peaks stand somewhat lower and together create a distinctive pattern in this part of the Alps.
