Pyromin Museum

The Pyromin Museum is a military museum housed within Fort de Champillon underground, spread across a network of tunnels that display exhibits on explosives and military engineering. The collection features objects and scale models showing how these technologies developed and were applied in different periods.

Fort de Champillon was built in the early 1940s as a military fortification to protect key areas in the region. After the war, the facility was repurposed and eventually converted to house this museum that documents the military past of the region.

The museum reflects how explosives shaped Swiss industrial and military practices over generations. Today it shows this evolution through working displays and hands-on examples that reveal the technical knowledge passed down through time.

Access is through an underground tunnel system that stays relatively cool year-round, so visitors should bring warm layers for comfort. Sturdy walking shoes are advisable since paths through the corridors require spending time on your feet.

The museum runs special programs for school groups where young visitors learn hands-on about explosive technology and its history. These interactive sessions allow children to explore the underground spaces as living classrooms and engage directly with the subject matter.
