Castle of the Porte du Scex

The castle stands between a rocky cliff and the Rhône River, featuring thick stone walls and a strategic position controlling the northern passage to Vouvry.

Construction of the castle began in 1672 under the supervision of the Châtelain of Vionnaz-Bouveret, with completion achieved in 1678 using materials like limestone and timber.

The structure represents Swiss medieval fortification architecture and holds a class B cultural property status, marking its importance to regional heritage preservation efforts.

Located at Route du Château 1 in Vouvry with coordinates 46°20'56"N 6°53'13"E, the castle regularly hosts exhibitions and wine events throughout the year.

Following severe flood damage in 1902, architect Joseph Dufour redesigned the castle, incorporating the widening of the Stockalper canal into the reconstruction plans.
