Château Rothschild and its outbuildings
Château Rothschild and its outbuildings, 19th-century castle in Pregny-Chambésy, Switzerland
Château Rothschild is a 19th-century castle near Lake Geneva featuring symmetrical wings and formal gardens arranged on spacious grounds. The building displays architectural details typical of Swiss estates from the 1850s period, with outbuildings integrated into the overall design.
Construction began in 1858 when banker Adolphe Carl de Rothschild commissioned the castle as his residence. The property remained in family hands after his death in 1900, with his successor continuing stewardship of the estate.
The property reflects how wealthy banking families of the 1800s used architecture to display their status and refinement in the Geneva region. Walking through the grounds, you can see the careful attention to design that was typical of such estates during that era.
The castle is located at Route de Pregny 32 and functions as a private family residence with very limited access to visitors. It's best to check locally or in advance about any open occasions, as visits depend entirely on the family's schedule.
The estate has remained continuously owned and inhabited by the Rothschild family since its completion, making it one of the rare large private castles in the region with unbroken family stewardship. This extended period of single-family ownership spans more than 150 years of consistent presence.
