Piz da la Margna, Alpine summit in Grisons, Switzerland
Piz da la Margna is an Alpine summit in the Bernina Range reaching approximately 3,159 meters. Steep rock faces rise from the peak, overlooking Lake Sils in eastern Grisons.
The first documented ascent occurred in June 1857 when a group of mountaineers reached the summit. This climb marked the beginning of the recorded mountaineering history for this peak.
The name reflects Romansh language, a minority tongue spoken in this Alpine region. Local people use this traditional designation, which connects the mountain to the cultural identity of the area.
The east flank route from Maloja offers a feasible path to the summit, while Val Fedoz provides additional options during summer months. Conditions vary significantly based on season and weather patterns.
The southeast ridge from Fuorcla da la Margna requires technical climbing skills with difficulty grade IV and exposed sections. Experienced climbers choose this route when seeking additional challenge.
