Konzertsaal Solothurn, Concert hall in Solothurn, Switzerland
Konzertsaal Solothurn is a performance venue with two halls: a large concert space seating 590 people and a smaller hall with 200 seats. The building also has an entrance foyer that serves as an additional event space for different occasions.
Swiss architect Alexander Koch designed the building in 1896, taking inspiration from the Swiss National Museum in Zurich. The project was created when Solothurn was establishing itself as an important cultural center in the region.
The venue has served as the heart of the Solothurner Filmtage festival since 1990, hosting both musical and film presentations throughout the year. It has become a gathering place where local and visiting audiences experience contemporary and classical arts together.
Located at Untere Steingrubenstrasse 1, the venue is easy to reach and sits close to the medieval city wall, making it simple to orient yourself. The central position allows for pleasant walks to other parts of the old town.
The building was deliberately positioned alongside the medieval city wall, creating an architectural dialogue between different centuries. This placement shows how the structure was carefully integrated into the existing landscape rather than imposed upon it.
