Treibhaus Luzern, youth culture centre in Lucerne, Switzerland

Treibhaus Luzern is an event venue and gathering place in Lucerne with spaces for workshops, concerts, and social gatherings. The building features several areas for artistic activities, a café area, and a cafeteria offering vegetarian and meat dishes.

The Treibhaus replaced the Wärchhof, a youth and leisure space opened in 1978 in a former civil defence building and run by the Jugend und Freizeit association. That association dissolved in 2001 and the Wärchhof gave way to housing in 2003. Also in 2001 the city council took over running a central youth culture house, and the city parliament approved the new building a year later. Built from April 2003 to April 2004 in the Tribschen quarter, it opened on 1 May 2004.

Treibhaus Luzern takes its name from the German word for greenhouse. Its programme is planned and organised by activists rather than by an outside curator, and young people aged 16 to 25 help run events and projects. The in-house restaurant is run so that guests can stay without being obliged to buy anything.

Treibhaus Luzern is at Spelteriniweg 4, between the Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern headquarters and depot and the FC Kickers Luzern football ground, next to the Theater Pavillon der Luzerner Spielleute. It is run by the city's children, youth, family, leisure and neighbourhood work department. Rooms and infrastructure can be rented; the restaurant is open without any obligation to buy.

The building was constructed between April 2003 and April 2004 in the Tribschen quarter, and the city parliament had approved the new build a year after the city council agreed in 2001 to run a central youth culture house. The centre is attached to the city's children, youth, family, leisure and neighbourhood work department.
