Artillery Fort of Champex

The Artillery Fort of Champex is an underground military complex built beneath the Alps at high altitude and contains a network of tunnels spanning several hundred meters. The facility was designed to house troops, store ammunition, and serve as a command center.

The complex was built between 1940 and 1943 and served Switzerland's defense strategy against potential Italian attacks during World War II. It was part of broader efforts to protect Alpine passes.

The site takes its name from the Champex area and serves as a place where visitors learn how Switzerland prepared its defenses during a critical period. The tunnels reveal the daily reality of soldiers stationed far above normal settlements.
