Scie et moulin de Sarreyer, Memory institution and local museum in Sarreyer, Switzerland.

The Scie et moulin de Sarreyer is a preserved industrial building that housed a sawmill and grain-grinding equipment in a Swiss mountain valley. The structure demonstrates how waterpower once supported the survival of a mountain community.

The building came into existence in 1837 through the cooperation of villagers who needed shared facilities for their livelihoods. The operation ran for roughly a century before production stopped.

The building stands in the heart of Sarreyer and shows how mills and sawmills once shaped daily life in the valley. Visitors can sense the connection between the community and the machines that served it.

The building is reachable on foot from the village center, and access is straightforward during open times. Wear comfortable shoes since the surrounding terrain is uneven.

A single vertical waterwheel powered the sawmill, two grindstones, and even an apple crusher all at once. This engineering solution shows how mountain dwellers used their resources creatively.
