Jan Michalski Foundation, Literary foundation and residency center in Montricher, Switzerland.
The Jan Michalski Foundation is a modern building complex with glass walls, suspended walkways, and elevated wooden writing cabins set among trees. The spaces house a large library, exhibition areas, and a café.
Vera Michalski founded the foundation in 2004 as a tribute to her late husband Jan and to fulfill his dream of a literary center. The project grew into an internationally recognized hub for writers and literature enthusiasts.
The foundation maintains a multilingual book collection and awards an annual literature prize to authors from around the world.
Visitors can access the library, exhibition spaces, and Canopée café from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 and 18:00. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable since the site has outdoor areas and walkways connecting different zones.
Twelve elevated writing studios suspended between concrete pillars and connected by walkways provide living spaces for visiting writers. This design isolates authors from daily distractions and creates an environment where they can focus entirely on their work.
