Hotel Belvédère

Hotel Belvédère sits at 2429 meters elevation on the Furka Pass, positioned to offer direct views of the Rhône Glacier and the surrounding Swiss Alps. The structure features multiple floors built in traditional mountain architecture, located along one of Switzerland's major alpine pass routes.

Josef Seiler built the structure in 1882 as a lodge, then expanded it in 1890 with a gable roof and two additional floors. These additions transformed it into a substantial mountain hotel serving travelers crossing the Furka Pass.

The building gained international attention after appearing in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, an event that shaped how visitors see the place today. The connection to cinema history remains part of how people experience and remember this mountain location.

The hotel has been closed since 2015 and visitors cannot enter the building, though many drivers stop at the location to photograph it against the mountain backdrop. The site remains accessible from the mountain road and offers strong views from outside.

Guests could once explore an ice grotto carved into the glacier, which required annual recreation because the ice shifted naturally over time. This underground feature was a notable draw that no longer exists at the location.
