Crans-sur-Sierre

Crans-sur-Sierre is a ski resort in Valais with about 140 kilometers of slopes across multiple elevation zones. The terrain ranges from lower areas near 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) to higher peaks close to 3,000 meters (9,850 feet), offering variety for different skill levels.

Development as a winter sports destination began in the early 1900s, with the first ski lift built in 1937. This early infrastructure helped establish it as a major Alpine resort.

The resort reflects both French and German-speaking Swiss traditions through its services and community life. Regional mountain cooking is served in local restaurants and slope-side establishments, showing how the place connects to its surroundings.

The resort operates mainly from December through April with good conditions for all levels. Modern lifts and slope-side facilities make getting around convenient and comfortable.

The Plaine Morte glacier near 3,000 meters (9,850 feet) allows skiing year-round in one section. The area also has a network of well-maintained cross-country trails for a different kind of winter experience.
