Crans-Montana, Alpine municipality in Valais, Switzerland.
Crans-Montana sits at around 1,500 meters above sea level in the Sierre District, spreading across several sunny slopes above the Rhône Valley. The settlement includes several former villages that now form a connected community with hotels, shops, and sports facilities.
The current municipality formed in 2017 through the merger of six smaller municipalities, including Chermignon, Mollens, Montana, and Randogne. This union aimed to simplify administration and strengthen the area as a tourism destination.
The settlement carries a double name from two formerly separate villages that grew on sunny south-facing slopes into a holiday destination. Many buildings reflect traditional Valais wooden architecture, with hotels and chalets set between alpine meadows and forests.
A funicular railway links the resort with Sierre, where connections to the Swiss rail network are available. Roads and paths run through the different parts of the settlement, and many areas are easily accessible on foot.
Several small mountain lakes, including Lac des Miriouges and Etang de la Moubra, lie scattered among meadows and woods. These bodies of water serve as starting points for hikes and offer quiet spots to rest.
