Eiger Express, Aerial lift in Grindelwald, Switzerland
The Eiger Express is a modern aerial lift connecting Grindelwald Terminal with the higher Eigergletscher station. The system uses only seven support towers and can transport up to 26 people per cabin.
This lift opened in 2020 and represents a major step forward in Swiss mountain transportation. It significantly shortened the journey to Jungfraujoch when compared to previous routes.
This lift connects visitors to renowned Alpine hiking trails and mountain routes around the Eiger north face. From inside the cabin, travelers see the dramatic rock wall and surrounding peaks during the ascent.
The ride from Grindelwald to the upper station takes about 15 minutes and climbs roughly 1,400 meters (4,600 feet). The system is designed for various weather conditions and operates regularly throughout the year.
The system uses a special tricable technology that allows it to carry up to 2,200 passengers per hour while requiring minimal infrastructure. This design makes it a technically innovative solution for mountain transport.
