First Cliff Walk, Mountain walkway in Grindelwald, Switzerland
The First Cliff Walk is a metal pathway clinging to the mountainside at about 2168 meters with a viewing platform that juts far out over empty air. The structure uses solid steel construction and gives you an unobstructed view straight down into the valley below.
The pathway opened in 2015 as the first major attraction at the Grindelwald-First summit. Since then, it has drawn thousands of visitors seeking new ways to experience the Bernese Alps from above.
The walkway shows how the region opens mountain landscapes to visitors while respecting the natural environment. From here, you can watch alpine birds and discover the rocks from angles that ground-based travelers never see.
You reach the walkway by gondola in about 25 minutes from the village. The walk itself takes roughly 15 minutes in one direction, though most people spend extra time at the viewing spots.
The walkway includes a single-rope hanging bridge that tests your balance as it crosses open air. The seven different viewing stations show the Alpine panorama from angles you cannot find anywhere else in the region.
