Wildgärst

Wildgärst is a mountain summit in the Bernese Oberland, standing at approximately 2,890 meters high. The peak sits on limestone terrain positioned between two lakes that are visible from the top.

The mountain became a climbing destination during the 19th century when guides from the Grindelwald area began establishing trails to the summit. Routes connected this peak with surrounding mountains and lowland areas.

Local mountain guides maintain traditional climbing practices on Wildgärst, teaching new generations about Alpine navigation and safety protocols.

The climb is demanding and takes several hours, involving significant elevation gain. Proper hiking boots and mountain-appropriate clothing are essential for the journey.

Wild animals such as ibex and marmots roam the area around the summit. Early morning visits offer better chances to spot these mountain creatures.
