Wellhorn

Wellhorn is a mountain peak in the Bernese Alps rising to 3191 meters, marked by steep limestone rock faces and glaciated terrain on its eastern flank. The summit area features exposed rock and mixed climbing sections that challenge climbers of various skill levels.

The main summit was first reached by mountaineers in 1866, marking an important milestone in the exploration of the Alps during the early mountaineering era. This ascent reflected the growing interest in technical high-altitude climbing that defined the period.

The mountain draws local climbers who explore traditional routes and practice their skills on its exposed rock faces. It remains a place where mountaineering knowledge is shared and tested in real conditions.

The base village of Rosenlaui serves as the starting point for climbs, accessible from Meiringen with regular transport options. Major train connections from Zurich and Bern make reaching the region straightforward for most visitors.

The mountain consists of three distinct peaks arranged side by side, with the main summit joined by two smaller neighboring summits to the north and south. This multi-peak arrangement means climbers can experience different rock types and technical difficulties on each section.
