Grosses Engelhorn, Mountain summit in Bernese Alps, Switzerland.
The Grosses Engelhorn rises to 2,782 meters above sea level between the Reichenbachtal and Urbachtal valleys in the Bernese Alps.
The first recorded ascent of Grosses Engelhorn occurred in 1876, marking a significant milestone in the exploration of the Bernese Alps.
Gertrude Lowthian Bell, with guides Ulrich and Heinrich Fuhrer from Meiringen, led systematic climbing expeditions in the area during 1901.
The mountain requires technical climbing skills as there are no established hiking trails leading to the summit.
The mountain maintains a population of approximately one hundred chamois, continuing its legacy as a traditional hunting ground.
