Castle ruin Resti, Medieval tower ruin in Meiringen, Switzerland.
Resti castle is a medieval stone ruin in Meiringen built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley. The surviving defensive tower displays multiple levels with thick walls and narrow window openings for protection.
The fortress was built starting in the 13th century and served local noble families as an administrative center. It lost importance after the decline of regional rule and gradually fell into ruins.
The tower served as a center of power for local nobility who governed the valley and controlled mountain trade routes. Today the ruins stand as a reminder of how such fortresses shaped daily life in Alpine communities.
The ruin is reached via a marked hiking trail from Meiringen that takes about an hour to climb. Sturdy footwear and caution are advisable since the path is steep and the ruin sits on exposed terrain.
When restored in 2004, steel structures were added to allow visitors to climb levels otherwise unreachable. These modern additions give a fresh perspective on how the original building was organized and used.
