Doual'art, Contemporary art museum in Bonanjo district, Douala, Cameroon.
Doual'art occupies a former cinema building in the Bonanjo district and displays works by Cameroonian and international contemporary artists. The institution uses multiple gallery spaces to present different artistic approaches and media.
Marilyn Douala Bell founded this cultural space in 1991 to support contemporary artistic practice. The current building opened in the Bonanjo neighborhood in 1998 and has served as a focal point for exhibitions ever since.
The museum hosts the SUD Salon Urbain de Douala, a triennial showcase of contemporary art that appears in public spaces throughout the city. This event brings artists' works directly into streets and squares, transforming urban areas through large-scale installations and interventions.
The museum welcomes visitors on weekdays with hours that vary throughout the week. It is recommended to check opening times in advance before making a visit.
The institution commissioned the sculpture La Nouvelle Liberté by Joseph-Francis Sumégné in 1996, marking a shift in how contemporary art was approached in Cameroon. This project helped establish public art as a recognized practice in the country.
