AIA Central, Office skyscraper in Central, Hong Kong
AIA Central is a 40-story tower in Central with a glass exterior and distinctive vertical fins running up its facade. Each floor contains spacious office areas, and the building connects directly to the MTR transit system through covered walkways.
Built after the Furama Hotel was demolished in 2001, the structure represents a turning point in Central's modern redevelopment. Its completion brought contemporary office architecture to a traditionally bustling commercial zone.
The tower's sail-like shape draws from traditional Chinese vessels, while its nighttime lighting evokes lantern designs rooted in local culture. This visual language connects contemporary architecture with heritage that residents and visitors recognize immediately.
The building is easily accessible through covered walkways connected directly to Central MTR station, making arrival straightforward for anyone visiting. Ground-floor layouts are open, so navigating between entry points and transit connections is intuitive.
Powerful searchlights on the roof send beams across the harbor at night, creating an unexpected light display. This feature is often overlooked by passersby but becomes striking when viewed from the harbor or nearby vantage points after dark.
