Khorzhak Monastery, Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Purang County, China.
The monastery sits near the Karnali River at an elevation of 3800 meters, featuring large red walls decorated with mantras and traditional inscriptions.
Founded in 996 CE by King Khor-re and Prince Lha-de from Purang, the monastery became a center of the Kagyu lineage in western Tibet.
Monks gather in the main courtyard to perform traditional mask dances while local maidens display their family jewelry during special ceremonies.
The monastery maintains regular visiting hours from sunrise to sunset, with guided tours available through local travel agencies in Purang County.
The monastery houses one of four sacred Avalokiteshvara images that were transported from Nepal to Tibet during the seventh century.
