Saipal, Mountain peak in Sudurpashchim Province, Nepal.
Saipal is a mountain summit in the Gurans Himal range of northwestern Nepal, rising to 7,031 meters above sea level along the border between Sudurpashchim Province and Karnali Province. The peak sits above open rocky terrain and high grasslands that shape the surrounding landscape.
Saipal remained largely unexplored for decades, with its northern slopes having very few documented climbing records. Awareness of its position within the Gurans Himal grew slowly as more expeditions reached this remote part of Nepal.
Near the mountain, local communities have gathered medicinal herbs from the high slopes for generations, a practice that remains part of everyday life today. Travelers passing through nearby villages can see traces of this tradition in the dried plants and small markets along the trail.
Reaching the mountain typically involves a connecting flight to Simikot from Nepalgunj, followed by several days of trekking through remote villages. Travelers should be well prepared for high altitude conditions and rapidly changing weather before setting out.
The Seti River has its source on the slopes of Saipal, and as it flows down it has cut deep into the rock over a long time, forming gorges that are visible from certain points along the eastern approach. This makes the trek toward the mountain a journey through a landscape shaped by water as much as by altitude.
