Changuch, Mountain summit in Munsiari tehsil, India
Changuch is a mountain summit in the Munsiari area of Uttarakhand, rising to approximately 6,300 meters at the border between Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts. The peak features multiple climbing routes and overlooks the valleys that define this Himalayan region.
Climbers made several attempts to reach the summit between 1987 and 2007, but the first successful ascent came in 2009 when an Indo-British expedition reached the top. This achievement marked a significant milestone for mountaineering in the region.
The mountain connects two significant valleys through Traill's pass, forming a natural pathway between the Pindari and Goriganga regions used by local communities.
The main access routes go through Lawan Valley and via the Pindari Glacier, with Munsiyari serving as the nearest base for supplies and preparations. Visitors should be ready for high mountain conditions and changing weather throughout the year.
The northwest ridge is one of the most technically demanding routes in the area, requiring advanced climbing skills to navigate the steep sections. This particular approach offers a direct path to the summit but remains suitable only for experienced mountaineers.
