Trisul, Mountain peak in Bageshwar district, India

Trisul is a mountain peak in Bageshwar district, Uttarakhand, consisting of three summits that form a north-south ridge. The northern summit, Trisul I, rises to 7,120 meters and represents the highest point of this distinctive three-peak formation.

In 1907, T.G. Longstaff led the first ascent of the summit via the Rishiganga valley and Trisul Glacier, establishing a major achievement for mountaineering. This successful expedition opened new possibilities for climbing in the high mountains of the region.

The name comes from Sanskrit, referring to the three-pointed trident of the Hindu deity Shiva, which mirrors the mountain's three-peak formation.

Access to the mountain involves traveling through multiple locations including Almora, Kausani, and Gwaldam before reaching higher camps near the peak. Visitors should plan for proper acclimatization and allow sufficient time to adjust to the different altitudes along the route.

The mountain holds the distinction of being the first peak above 7,000 meters ever climbed, marking a fundamental breakthrough in mountaineering history. This record-breaking achievement sparked interest in expeditions to even higher regions of the Himalaya.
