Haathi Parvat, Mountain summit in Joshimath Tehsil, India
Haathi Parvat is a mountain peak in the Garhwal Himalayas located in Uttarakhand state, standing at approximately 6,700 meters elevation. The summit sits within a region known for trekking, surrounded by alpine meadows and valleys that attract visitors seeking mountain experiences.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1963 when an Indian expedition team successfully reached the summit. Since then, the peak has remained a destination for mountaineers from the region.
Local tales speak of two rocks on the mountain representing a crow and an eagle, which according to Hindu mythology discuss matters of the universe.
Access is gained through a trekking path starting from Govindghat that passes through Bhyundar Valley, taking several hours to complete. Conditions are most favorable during dry months when the route is safely passable.
A major landslide in 2017 blocked the national highway near this mountain and disrupted pilgrimage routes for thousands of travelers. The event revealed how geologically active the Himalayan region remains, reshaping terrain suddenly and dramatically.
