Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary

The Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary extends across 975 square kilometers of alpine meadows, dense forests, and mountains at elevations starting from 1160 meters.

The Indian government established this natural reserve in 1972 to safeguard native species and maintain ecological balance in the northern Himalayan region.

The sanctuary borders the sacred Kedarnath temple grounds, connecting environmental preservation with traditional Hindu reverence for natural elements and divine manifestations.

Access to the sanctuary requires permits from forest authorities, with optimal visiting periods during May to June and September to October.

Snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, and multiple deer species roam freely through different altitude zones within this mountain ecosystem.
