Vasudhara Falls

Vasudhara Falls, Waterfall in Uttarakhand, India

Vasudhara Falls is a waterfall in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India, situated on a steep mountain slope near the Tibetan border. The water drops over a high rock face and forms white streams that stand out against the dark stone.

The ancient village of Mana, located just a few kilometers away, was mentioned in Sanskrit texts that report on pilgrims traveling to this water site. The eight Vasus from Hindu scriptures are said to have meditated here, and the name of the spring derives from this narrative.

Locals name the waterfall after the eight Vasus who once performed their spiritual exercises here, and pilgrims come in every season to touch the water. The natural spectacle belongs to the traditional routes that Hindu walkers have followed for centuries when visiting the sacred mountains.

The path from Mana village runs over rocky trails, and walkers should wear sturdy footwear and bring enough water, as there are no supply options along the way. The best time to visit is between May and October, when the snowmelt makes the valley accessible.

The rocks at the edge of the cliffs host medicinal plants whose minerals enter the falling water and give it a special composition. The elevation at around 4100 meters (13,500 feet) often brings fog and changing light that can transform the colors of the landscape within a few minutes.
