Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks

The combined national parks span over 71,783 hectares of Himalayan terrain, featuring alpine meadows, glacial valleys, and mountain peaks at elevations between 3,400 and 7,800 meters.

British mountaineer Frank Smythe first documented the Valley of Flowers in 1931, leading expeditions that introduced this natural wonder to international recognition.

The indigenous Bhotia communities maintain traditional practices that reflect their deep connection to the surrounding mountains and natural environment of Uttarakhand.

Access to both parks requires special permits, with the main visiting season occurring between June and October when alpine flowers cover the valleys.

The parks contain over 500 species of wild flowers, including blue poppies, anemones, and primulas that create successive waves of color throughout the blooming season.
