Tirsuli, Mountain summit in Pithoragarh district, India.
Tirsuli is a 7,074 meter summit in Uttarakhand that forms the northeast wall of Nanda Devi sanctuary alongside Hardeol, Dunagiri, and Changabang peaks. The terrain features steep mountainsides and glaciers that define the approach to this remote high peak.
The summit was first reached in 1966 by an Indian expedition, after decades of remaining unclimbed. A Polish team in 1939 experienced tragedy when an avalanche struck their higher camp, highlighting the hazards this peak presents.
The mountain's name reflects its physical shape, resembling the three-pronged weapon of Hindu tradition.
Munsiyari serves as the main base for expeditions, reachable by bus and taxi from nearby towns like Kathgodam. Climbing requires serious preparation and acclimatization time, so plan well in advance and hire experienced local guides.
The mountain remained unclimbed for many years, attracting mountaineers seeking one of the more technically challenging summits in the Nanda Devi massif. Its reputation as a difficult and dangerous peak makes it a less-traveled route compared to other summits in the region.
