Cotai, Administrative parish in Macau, China
Cotai is an administrative parish on reclaimed land situated between Taipa and Coloane islands in Macau. The area spans roughly 5.2 square kilometers and developed after a causeway connected the two islands.
Land reclamation started in the 1990s after a causeway built in 1968 first connected Taipa and Coloane islands. This initial link laid the foundation for the new district's later development.
The district blends Portuguese colonial design with Chinese elements, visible in how modern hotels and entertainment venues are built and decorated. You can see this fusion reflected throughout the area's architecture and public spaces.
The area is served by the Macau Light Rapid Transit system connecting to other parts of the city, with regular ferries to Hong Kong. You can navigate easily along major roads with clear signage throughout the district.
The Cotai Strip holds several major resort complexes like The Venetian Macao, which opened in 2007. These developments transformed the area from empty reclaimed land into an international entertainment hub in less than two decades.
