The Venetian Macao, Casino resort in Cotai Strip, Macau, China
The Venetian Macao is a casino resort on the Cotai peninsula that rises 39 floors and 151 meters (495 feet) into the skyline. The complex holds around 3,000 suites and a gaming floor of roughly 51,000 square meters (550,000 square feet) with 3,400 slot machines.
The resort opened in August 2007 on reclaimed land stabilized by 1,530 concrete pilings. The designs by architects Aedas and HKS Inc. created one of the largest buildings in Asia.
The gaming areas bear names like Golden Fish, Imperial House, Red Dragon, and Phoenix, reflecting traditional Chinese symbols of fortune. These elements connect Western architecture with local ideas of prosperity and luck.
The resort connects directly to Cotai West Station on the Macau Light Rapid Transit and offers private bus links to other parts of Macau. The complex is accessible for wheelchairs, and visitors should allow extra time to navigate the expansive interiors.
With a total area of 980,000 square meters (10,549,000 square feet), the building is the largest single-structure hotel in Asia and the tenth-largest building worldwide by floor area. The sheer size means some guests need several minutes to walk from their room to a restaurant.
