Tumen Border Bridge, Border checkpoint and international bridge in Tumen, China and Onsong County, North Korea.
The Tumen Border Bridge is an international bridge connecting Tumen in China with Onsong County in North Korea. The crossing consists of two parallel structures spanning the Tumen River to facilitate trade and movement between the two countries.
The original bridge was completed in 1938 during Japanese rule and later served as a key crossing point during the Korean War. A second bridge was built alongside it in 2016 with Chinese funding to increase crossing capacity.
The bridge connects communities on both sides of the Tumen River, serving as one of the main points where daily border residents encounter each other and exchange goods.
This crossing handles trade and regulated goods movement between China and North Korea through organized checkpoints. Visitors should know that this is a heavily controlled border area with very limited public access.
The structure visibly marks the border through its checkpoint design and separation between the two sides. Photography of the bridge and border area is strictly limited or prohibited and requires special permission.
