Jing'an Park, Urban park in Jing'an District, Shanghai, China.
Jing'an Park is an urban park in Shanghai's Jing'an District, located south of Jing'an Temple Station where Nanjing Road and Changshu Road intersect. It features walking paths and open spaces designed for exercise and leisure activities in the city's center.
The site was originally Bubbling Well Road Cemetery, operating from 1898 to 1951 with thousands of burials and cremations. In 1954 it was transformed into a public park.
A central lane of plane trees remains from the former cemetery, connecting visitors to the site's past while providing shade. These trees mark a quiet path that reflects how this space has served different purposes across time.
The park is easily accessible from the metro station and offers good access for pedestrians. Visitors can come during daytime hours and explore at their own pace without requiring special equipment or preparation.
When the site was converted to a park in 1954, nearly all grave markers were deliberately removed during the transition. Only names were intentionally preserved, a quiet way to honor the deceased while the place took on an entirely new purpose.
