Shanghai Wheelock Square, Corporate skyscraper in Puxi, Shanghai, China
Shanghai Wheelock Square is a 58-floor skyscraper in the Puxi district of Shanghai, rising to 298 meters with a rectangular glass and steel facade. The building contains office floors in its upper levels, while its lower floors and basement level hold retail shops, dining venues, and a parking garage.
The tower was completed in 2009, during a period when Shanghai was rapidly growing as a major global financial center. It was part of a wave of tall buildings that reshaped the skyline of Puxi over that decade.
The tower stands in the Puxi financial district, where office workers and visitors pass through its ground-floor shops and restaurants every day. These spaces act as a meeting point for the surrounding business community, giving the building a role beyond just offices.
The building connects directly to the metro, making it easy to reach without a car. Those visiting the shops and restaurants will find it less busy in the morning or in the early evening compared to the midday rush.
Every floor in the tower was built without interior support columns, leaving each level as a single open space from wall to wall. This means tenants can divide and arrange their floor in any way they choose, without working around fixed structural elements.
