Former residence of Wang Shouren, Yuyao

The former residence of Wang Shouren in Yuyao is a Ming Dynasty dwelling complex with multiple buildings, courtyards, and rooms designed for scholarship and family life. The site displays traditional architecture of the period with carefully arranged spaces and open areas.

The house was home to Wang Yangming, a major philosopher of the Ming period whose ideas shaped Chinese intellectual history. The site was recognized as a nationally protected cultural monument in 2006 and documents an important chapter of Ming civilization.

The residence bears the name of Wang Shouren, known as Wang Yangming, and reveals how scholarly families organized their daily lives during the Ming period. Visitors can observe how rooms were arranged for study and teaching, and understand the building's role in the intellectual community of its time.

The grounds are walkable and invite exploration of the various rooms and courtyards that show how the complex functioned. Good walking shoes are advisable since moving between buildings crosses uneven surfaces.

Within the complex stands the Ruiyun Building, a distinctive structure that reveals the craftsmanship and technical knowledge of the Ming period. This building stands apart through its careful construction and displays the high skill of the artisans who built it.
