Huangjueping Yangtze River bridge, bridge in People's Republic of China
The Huangjueping Yangtze River crossing is a cable-stayed road and rail bridge spanning approximately 4.3 kilometers and connecting Jiulongpo and Nan'an districts in Chongqing. The structure features tall towers with cables arranged in a fan pattern that support multiple lanes of traffic on one side and a railway line on the other.
The crossing was constructed to shorten travel time between districts that previously took over 40 minutes to traverse. Once completed, crossing time was reduced to approximately 15 minutes, significantly easing connections between important parts of the city.
The Huangjueping crossing is woven into daily life in Chongqing, connecting two city districts that depend on it for work and commerce. Residents pass through regularly, and the bridge has become a focal point where the rhythm of the city flows around its structure.
When crossing, watch for river activity below including cargo vessels and ferries, especially visible on clear days. Allow time to take in views of the city skyline and distant mountains that are visible from the bridge.
The bridge features a rare side-by-side layout where the heavier railway line runs on one side while road traffic flows on the other. Engineers had to carefully adjust cable tension to keep the structure balanced despite the weight difference between trains and vehicles.
