Church of the Holy Trinity, Gothic church building in Žižkov district, Kutná Hora, Czech Republic.
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Žižkov is a Gothic building with three naves separated by cylindrical pillars that support an elaborate cross-vault ceiling system. The choir displays Late Gothic features, including a monumental carved shrine approximately 7 meters (23 feet) tall.
The church was built in the 1410s when the mining town was prospering and expanding. Around 1500, the mining entrepreneur Jan Smíšek initiated major renovations and modifications that reshaped much of its structure.
The name refers to the Holy Trinity, a faith deeply rooted in the mining community that funded its construction and decoration. The interior reflects the wealth and piety of local mining families who shaped its appearance.
The church is accessible from the outside at any time for viewing its exterior and surrounding area. For interior visits, check locally beforehand since access depends on service schedules and special events.
The western tower features carved reliefs showing the Smíšek family coat of arms with a unicorn motif and scenes of miners at work. These carvings visually document the connection between the church and the local mining industry.
