Grünská kyselka, Mineral spring in Louka, Czech Republic
Grünská kyselka is a natural mineral spring in the Louka area that produces water rich in magnesium, sourced from serpentine rock. The spring sits at about 710 meters elevation in a forested part of the Karlovarský region.
The spring came under ownership of landowner Engelbert Zuleger in 1891, who started bottling operations in 1899. The water was then exported to various countries and later supplied military installations in the region.
The water has been valued by people who lived or stayed in the area for generations. Today visitors can see how central this source has always been to the local landscape and life.
The spring is reached by a forest path branching from the road between Nova Ves and Louka, leading to a public pavilion. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes for the forest walk and bring containers if they want to collect water.
The water forms through a fascinating process where water flows both downward and upward through the serpentine rock at depths of 30 to 100 meters. These two flows meeting at different depths create the special mineral composition that makes this water distinctive.
